The 2014 Authors on Eighth Writing Contest has come and gone and I received an honorable mention. This year the theme was "horror" so I wrote a piece called He Lost His Mind but not His Heart. A real scary story I must say taking place in the Palace Grand Theater in down town Dawson City.
All the stories and poetry will be printed in the biggest/littlest newspaper in the north The Klondike Sun.
The contest is called Authors on Eighth because the cabins of Robert Service and Jack London are on eighth avenue in Dawson City.
I've attached a picture of a bronze bust of Jack London on main street in downtown Whitehorse. Someone put yellow carpenter glue in his ears, it looks gross so I can't show a profile. You can compare the bust to his picture.
There are also pictures of Service (with a tie in case you cannot tell by the bust who is who) and his original cabin.
