A while back I wrote a short story about Flunder, the Sasquatch, who lives in the forest behind my house. There was a lot of interest in that story and it made me think that people like to read about Sasquatches. I'm not the type of fiction writer that writes about mythical beings or animals but somehow I've been drawn into this. It is like writing science fiction.
I've started a novel that takes place fifteen thousand years ago on the Beringia land bridge connection Asia and North America. Two chapters have been roughed out.
Chapter one tells about the Sasquatches and the Earth People who live and travel together. The People are hunter/ gathers while the Sasquatches are gatherers. The People have language where the Sasquatches 'sign' and have a vocabulary of whistles. I will explain in detail how they live and how they cooperate amongst themselves.
Chapter two is about the 500 pound Bluebacks who have absolutely no redeeming qualities and are the sworn enemies of the Sasquatches and Earth People.
The blue backs kidnap Sasquatch children, eat the livers of the people they kill and wear their skins or hides. Redmoon is the leader of the Sasquatches and the Bluebacks kidnap his son Moontree.
Bearheart is the chief of the Earth People and he and his people along with the Sasquatches battle the Bluebacks. The chief of the Bluebacks, Stonearms, is bested in the kidnap battle and is run off. The People and the Sasquatches move out onto what they call the Big Grassy, the Beringia steppe, to get away from the Buebacks.
Redmoon will pursue the Bluebacks at a later date to get his son back.
I will humanize the Sasquatches and model their lives after the people of that era. That is fun to do. I can have them painting cave walls, making music and all sorts of things.
Flunder had his hair and beard trimmed today at the stylist and asked that his picture be taken, "It only cost me $35.00 with tip," he signed.
Best regards
David
