A while back we had a contract to beef up the wood columns in Yukon College in the event there was an earthquake. You can see the metal bands we placed around the columns. One of the columns had this cavity at ground level. Part of our contract was to fill these with epoxy, which we did. We thought we would make a little work of art. We drilled a hole in a Loonie, tied a wire to it and set it in the epoxy in the log's cavity. It was basically a loon floating inside a large log, sort of like a grotto. It was really neat. Later we went back and the loonie had been ripped out. It had plier marks on it. The epoxy held it so tight it snapped off. Someone went to the trouble of bringing a pair of pliers. You would think that when they saw the loonie breaking off they would have stopped. But no, they had to destroy it. I was disappointed. Of all places something like this should have been admired and safe, I think, would be in a college or university. We had set another coin in another area but I didn't go look at that.
