I'm happier these days. I finally got over two months of writer's block. I've mentioned before about three 20,000 word stories I'm putting together. Two of them are finished and one, I Was a Reporter for the Rolling Stone Magazine, is edited.
The second one, I was the Prince of the Apple Burner Motorcycle Club, is finished but not edited.
The third one, Evermore, gave me trouble. I was stuck at 10,000 words. Evermore was about a group of people in northern India building an utopian society. I even ordered Thomas More's book. The story became cumbersome and I realized I didn't believe in an utopia. I abandoned the story and went in another direction.
Once utopia was out of the way it was a great feeling to be writing again.
I learned a lesson, you have to recognize when things are not moving forward in your writing and have the smarts and courage to abandon the path you are taking. There is always something else to write about. If you think what you have written is too brilliant to throw away then save it. It might fit in elsewhere down the road.
We are looking after my daughter's dog, Brook, while they are in Edmonton purchasing a new vehicle and cat. My grandsons have called the cat Mini.
Brook is a black lab and really smart . She likes to go for walks in the bush and I think I've lost weight over the past few days hiking up and down hills.
